I'm so cool I'm going to live in Antarctica

No really, I am.  When I went back to Chicago to finish school, I started applying for jobs.  All jobs and every job.  I was on the craigslist site one day and saw there was a dining attendant position being offered.  But the location said Antarctica.  I opened it just out of curiosity.  It seemed legit, but I was skeptical.  But I put my resume in anyways.  I didn't hear anything back and got a job at the school again.  They really like me there.  But about 6 weeks later, around my birthday, I got a phone call.  It was a women who said she was from Raytheon Polar Services Company and wanted to interview me for a position in Antarctica.  I was shocked.  So I called back the next day and did an interview over the phone.  She sent me an application, and a week later, she called back and said I had been hired.  It was a dream come true, kinda.  I mean, I never really dreamed of working in Antarctica, but I had always wanted to work abroad somewhere.  So since then, I have been getting prepared.  In order to go down there, one must pass a physical and dental examination.  I did the physical just fine, but the dental was a different story.  I had to get my left wisdom teeth out, two fillings and a crown.  I have my last dental appointment on Monday to get my permanent crown in.  After that I should be good.  My tentative leave date is August 15th, and will be down there for approximately 6 months.  So yeah, that's an update for anyone who is still on this site.

Holy crap it's been a long while.  I don't even think people will read this but I'd thought I'll just post again.  So I'm back in Bloomington, well, technically in Heyworth, but who cares.  I'm down here until December, then it's back to school.  I decided to switch majors from a BBA in hospitality management to a BPS(Bachelors of Proffessional Studies) in advanced culinary arts.  So while I' down here I decided to work.  I didn't count on working in such a short amount of time though.  I started at Gold's Gym last week as an opener, which means that I have to wake up at 3 am every morning, but I get off at 7am for now, because I open with another person who would usually be alone.  I aslo started working out with a personal trainor to get into really good shape.  But with early hours and rigorous trainig, I usually have to take a good 4 hour nap every day, which I still have yet to get used to.  I'm actually drinking a protein shake???? and let me tell you, it's nasty.  But it's almost required in order to build lean muscle.  So that's about all that's happening with me so far.  Maybe I can start posting more often.

Culinary 101

So, my friend took this video of me after our pastry final.  It was sort of random, but it was funny at the same time.  I would suggest that you not eat anything while watching this video.  http://youtube.com/watch?v=pwjXvA1YKC0

attachment  My pretty little chocolate flower.  Yes, the entire thing is made from white chocolate.  By me.  Who knew I could be so artistic?

Disaster Avoided

Yesterday started off as the day from hell.  My Astrive loan hadn't gone thru yet because they needed my step-mom's tax information.  She's my co-signer on the loan.  So I was not going to get the loan on time to pay the balance on my tuition and would be withdrawn.  I talked to my financial advisor and she said there wasn't a whole lot of options left.  The minimun payment to be made by friday was $3,600.  She said my ;ast chance was to apply for a loan thru SallieMae since there process was relatively fast.  She was not kidding.  At 11:30am I thought I was done with school.  At 4:30pm I was off of finacila clearence and was handed my schedule and am fine finacially thru the rest of this acedemic year.  I'm still getting my Astrive loan, but only to cover the small remaining balance that isn't a big issue now.  So now I can get my books and everything else I need.  I was so fearful that I would be withdrawn from school I started filling out an application to ISU, which I might do anyways because I can't stand it here anymore.  It's not the teachers or my class mates, its just that this school is not for me.  I'll finish my pastry degree, then I'll take one more quarter with business classes, then tranfer to ISU for a nutritions degree and teaching certificate si I can teach culinary arts at a secondary level.  I could take that degree anywhere.  So yeah, I just have to survive the summer up here and then I'll be fine.

Wow

Another shooting.  I just can't belive it.  Thank God Rachel and everybody else was okay.  I have a feeling our school will change its security policies again.  Our campus is an open campus.  Pretty much anyone can come in and do anything accept on the 7th floor.  After the VT shootings they revised their evacuation policies by making sure all stairwells were opened and unlocked and installed turnstiles on the 7th floor so anyone without a school ID can't get in.  The only security in the building is near the center entrance of the buliding with no views of the elevators or main stairwells.  I'm sure that will change.  Robert Morris may actually hire its own security.  We'll probably have some news on Tuesday as to what they're going to do.

On a happier note, I'm done with finals once again.  Though it was a little shakey this quarter I did ok.  So I officially have only 5 quarters left of school, or approximatley 50 weeks.  Happy Valentines Day to everyone and have a good weekend.
